A meme that doesn't annoy;

Now I hear Ralphy's voice every time an NRA spokesperson talks.

Memes of Emma Gonzales tearing up the "Constitution"

They are so obviously digitally manipulated.
They've white washed her, put dark circles under her eyes to make her appear menacing...

it's disgusting...

I assume they used her because of Sinead O'Conner tearing up the picture of the Pope?

It's also based on a real image Emma Gonzales tearing up a firearm target.

A fake photo of Emma GonzŠlez went viral on the far right, where Parkland teens are villains

I don't much object to the Constitution-ripping imagery - I respect free speech and reserve the right to propagate similar images of people I don't like - but why do I get the feeling that the target audience for this will believe it's not a doctored image?

I'm pretty sure the point of doctoring an image is to make people think it's real.

Not always when it comes to Internet memes. If I saw a picture of - oh, I don't know, maybe Donald Trump - ripping up the Constitution and stepping on the flag while he was at it, I wouldn't think it was real and most other people wouldn't, either. That's the odd thing I'm sensing here: that some of the folks who vehemently disagree with these students literally think they are radicals who want to destroy the nation as it now exists. But maybe I'm letting my own prejudices get the best of me. I hope I am.

My real objection to those image is like I mentioned, they obviously did more than switch the paper target for a Constitution.

And I find the reason for that disgusting. They attack her for being of Cuban heritage, then they go and make her skin look lighter, they give her raccoon eyes...

Only people with an agenda will look at that picture and not stop and ask questions... but that's the thing. A lot of "Trumpsters" or NRA supporters will look at it and decide it's accurate.

As I said in my previous post, our culture in general, seems to have nothing but hate and scorn for teenagers. Iím not entirely sure why, to paraphrase Laurie Halse Anderson, our culture can care about children when they are small and portable, only to abandon them as teenagers.

Because no matter what they do, teenagers canít win. If they utilize technology invented by previous generations to communicate with friends and other like-minded people, then they are shallow and mindless. If they decide to speak up and organize on behalf of a cause theyíre passionate about, culture is like, ď STFU! How dare you have an opinion on something that affects not only your life, but the lives of many others across the nation!Ē

I increasingly think that the real reason that teenagers are all disrespectful isnít so much due to biology, as it is due to the adults and the wider culture around them. Why should they respect people who donít respect them?

A question that feels really apt, given that the teen protesters are fighting against a government that considers catering to a small cult of gun-fondlers more important , rather than than taking basic steps to ensure the safety of its citizens, be they in school or at a concert in Vegas.

"Kids want guns taken away, so maybe we should take away video games with guns and violence."

D'oh!

An oft-heard argument used, regarding kids and violent media, is ďKids canít distinguish between TV and real life!Ē but from the looks of things, itís the adults who are having trouble.

Children should be seen and not heard, was a common saying in my childhood.

I'm sure there are those agree with the sentiment want to extend who extend childhood to not only teenagers but also adults in their twenties and thirties who disagree with the speaker.

There are already rules in place that alert parents to inappropriate content for children where video games are concerned. I'd have no problem taking away video games with guns and violence from adults though (it's always easy to support bans on items you don't personally use). Why do I doubt that a move like that would go over well though? And not with the adults who play the games but with the adults who profit from selling those games.

Except she does not have raccoon eyes in the original image...
They put really deep, dark rings under her eyes... for what reason?
To let us know she's very studious and stays up late studying?

That doesn't sound like a message the makers of the altered image would want to send.

Yah! If this meme does not work, the photo can be re-purposed for allergy awareness. Now that's recycling!

And many stores require proof of age before purchasing M-rated games; my husband (who was well over 18)had to show ID more than once.
