Quote:
A woman is being sought following the sexual assault of a 17-year-old schoolgirl at a railway station in Melbourne’s west last month.

The girl was on her way home from school about 2pm on Tuesday, May 1 when the woman allegedly approached her from behind at Newport station and sexually assaulted her as she walked down the ramp to the exit.

Why is her face covered if they're trying to identify her? Wondering.

I'm guessing because of fear of vigilantes attacking her or someone that resembles her? Or because she is still just a person of interest but people often jump right to assuming guilt. If it turns out she is not guilty, not having her picture on a story about sexual assault would prevent a lot of issues down the road.

Glad to hear she turned herself in. This is going to be an interesting case to follow.

In the initial story (and link), her face was not blurred. After she had handed herself in and been charged by Police then it was a matter before the Court, and to avoid prejudice in any trial an offenders face is often blurred by news outlets.

I suspect that you may have clicked on the link after the online story had been updated and therefore only seen the blurred face.
