Fascinating bit of a story that we'll never have the rest of.

The pot would have been missed, surely? I wonder if the person who threw it out claimed it had broken?

If there were a deposit of clay nearby, the person who threw it away may have made a substitute--and if no one else wanted to use that particular pot, no one would notice it had been tossed.

Although, given what the article says about the smell, perhaps the whole village knew.
