Because it is Talk Like a Pirate Day, DW and I were emailing our usual communications in pirate talk. But that's hard to work out how you want to say ordinary stuff. So we devolved to talking normally with a random "pirate" word at the end.

Scurvy!

A hummingbird just showed up in my garden. Usually I only see them in springtime. Maybe it's migrating, but I put the feeder up anyway in case it decides to stick around for the winter.

My next-door neighbors' SUV, which has been sitting in their driveway for *years* with four flat tires and a broken window, is finally gone. I'm surprised the HOA hasn't made them move it sooner. Now they'll have extra space to park their other vehicles instead of parking on my grass.

(One fear, though, is that I hope this doesn't mean they're moving. Even though they encroach on my grass/driveway, they're still incredibly quiet and private neighbors, which I appreciate since we share a wall.)

There was a mockingbird that was just singing its little heart out this morning. Not sure why—mating season has probably wrapped up—but maybe the Why doesn’t matter so much.

Now it's getting colder, my cat snuggles up for a couple of minutes when I go to bed.

I did not encounter a single red light between my house and the exit I use to get on I495. Sweet!

I understood the nature and location of the accident this morning in time to bypass it. I was quite surprised that few people were doing so, but it made me happy because it meant I could drive the speed limit.

More of a big thing that makes me happy: my father has been off of Motrin and Lyrica for a few months now, and has been completely cleared of all the side effects they were causing him - essentially, what appeared to be severe dementia, to the point of near-Alzheimic issues. The Lyrica was the worst part, but kidney damage caused by the Motrin had also contributed to the mental issues. The kicker? The medication problems were only discovered after he had a TIA, which his new doctor says "was the best thing that could have happened to him".

He's back to his old self again, and even been cleared to drive.

That's very good news, Crius.

My daughter and I went to a Gorillaz concert last night. Damon Albarn (the lead singer, more or less) hugged me! It was amazing Great concert in general. They're very interactive with the audience.

After over a year of carrying around a small hand-pump in my backpack, a bicycle tire finally sprang a small leak while out on a ride. I was able to use the pump to re-pressurize the tire and get home!

Now, had it been a slightly less ugly day (it rained both ways) or had the hole been any bigger (I was able to go about 2 miles between press-ups, over a 6 mile route) I might also have gotten to employ the patch kit I carry in my backpack as well. Ah well, maybe next time...

One of the Amazon giveaways is for a waterproof 10 speed massager "for back and shoulders" that looks like a very fat pen.

A review for it said, "Amazon recommended this product for me. I'm on my mother's account. I don't want to know more."

I just found out that my local library has free passes for some very good museums in Philly. I will have to take the kids on more trips.

I bought a nice ceramic candy bowl -green with a spider on one side- at Safeway for $2.25 plus tax. I love how they just go to 75% off after the holiday is over.

I made brownies on Sunday, substituting almond for the vanilla extract. Yum!
