D'oh! Trump Denies Pelosi Aircraft For Planned Trip Abroad

Words fail me.

No word on whether or not Dear Leader told Pelosi she was an icky girl who has cooties, but I would not be surprised if he did.

Pelosi would normally make such a trip on a military aircraft supplied by the Pentagon.
If I understand correctly, the military is still funded and thus the people associated with operating the aircraft would be getting paid, unlike the personnel responsible for providing security at the State of the Union.

Except flying commercial isn't really possible for the Speaker of the House, given the security requirements, is it? IIRC that was the reason she had to fly on a government plane between her home and Washington during her previous term as Speaker.

Jaded Melania Trump flies to West Palm in government plane despite shutdown

Quote:
Trump, also citing the government shutdown, emphasized that taking a trip while 800,000 federal workers werenít getting paid is ďtotally inappropriate,Ē he wrote to Pelosi in a letter.

Those rules, however, didnít apply to his wife, first lady Melania Trump, reports say.

Default Pelosi accuses White House of 'dangerous' leak

Quote:
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is canceling a congressional fact-finding trip to Afghanistan and claiming the White House leaked her plans to fly commercial.

Friday's announcement by Pelosi's office came a day after President Donald Trump nixed Pelosi's plans to take a military aircraft to Afghanistan.
https://abcnews.go.com/beta-story-co...-leak-60469609

There are further updates, but this particular one seemed to best some it up. The White House is denying the leak (Fox News headlines say they call it a "flat-out lie"). Pelosi is saying the leak raised serious security issues -- such trips are normally kept quiet ahead of time to avoid making the legislators a target.

I hope Pelosi is able to offer up some evidence that the leak came from the White House. At the moment, there doesn't seem to be anything substantial. Right now I think she's got a lot of people behind her in the showdown with Trump; making unfounded accusations could screw that up. And Lord knows there are enough perfectly well-founded accusations she could be making, without having to make anything up.

Fight It's off: Pelosi says no State of Union while govt shut

In a high-stakes case of dare and double-dare, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi served notice Wednesday that President Donald Trump won't be allowed to deliver his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress next week. She took the step after Trump said he planned to show up in spite of Democratic objections to the speech taking place with big swaths of the government shut down.
