Snake Tasers as a treatment for rattlesnake bites?

One of my coworkers asked me about this yesterday.

He said he'd heard that if you applied the prongs of a tazer directly to the puncture wounds on a rattlesnake bite and zapped yourself, the electricity would break down the proteins that make up the venom. Personally, I think this sounds like nothing more than a good way to add injury to injury, but I know that some venoms do break down when exposed to temperature extremes (stonefish venom, for example).

Anyway, thought I'd pass this one along.

I had a teacher who had once stood on a stonefish and said it was the most unbelievably painful experience of his life. But the venom is well inside your foot if you stand on the spines, and I imagine it is the same with rattlesnake venom - it is injected too far for any of these treatments to work.

I just have to ask...what kind of idiot would try tasering a venomous bite to see if it worked?

The same idiots that think that alternative medicine works.

I did ask him if he wished to test out the idea.

Given the available tools, wouldn't it be more effective to taser the snake before it bites?
