Default Photos not of Syrian refugees and not of Europeans fleeing during WWII

These photos were in my feed (aka trough) with the bogus explanation. This told me what they actually are.

Reading the snopes article, I saw this at the bottom:

Quote:
As for the claim that such emigrants "have limited skills in areas needed by technologically advanced countries and thus can hardly contribute to the economies of their benefactors," the Albanian diaspora that began in the early 1990s saw about 45% of that nation's academics leaving the country to take up residence elsewhere, many of whom have since returned to Albania.
Which is exactly why we SHOULD be concerned about refugees fleeing to western Europe or worse yet the Americas: the people with the skills needed to rebuild the country are also the ones with the best means to flee it and settle elsewhere. Refugees are best helped as close as possible to their homeland to facilitate their eventual return and re-integration. Unfortunately, "as close as possible to their homeland" means other middle eastern countries, many of which have refused to take in significant numbers of refugees and others which are overflowing with refugees and struggling to deal with them.

Western Europe, the US, Canada, and other nations should support and incentivize countries in southwest Asia to do more to help refugees, not necessarily take in large numbers of refugees themselves.

Rebuilding the country can only begin when the war or civil conflict that is disrupting it is over. In most cases, that will take years.

Why do you think that refugees - be they academics or carpenters - that spent these years in a UNHCR tent camp in Jordania (close to their home country) with very limited access to education will be better prepared to rebuild their home country that refugees that spent this time in Germany, with the chance to work in their field, send their kids to school and maybe get treatment for their post-traumatic stress disorder? As the quote you selected shows, taking up residence abroad during a conflict does not mean that people don't want to return once the rebuilding begins:

Like I said: more focus on support and incentivize countries in southwest Asia to do more to help refugees. That means improving the conditions in places that are accepting refugees and encouraging other countries to do the same. As you note, the war will likely go on for years. After years of living in countries like Germany, France, Brazil, or even the US, surely many will have acclimated by then? Learned the language, perhaps learned new skills, found long-term employment. If the question is "if not us, then who?" the answer is "their neighbors." Their neighbors who have similar cultures, language, and standards of living that are most nearly equivalent to what they would have if their homeland weren't torn apart by war.
