OK, it can be witty - I think this train conductor is quite witty:

Of course, Trainy McTrainface could be the town in Surrey that is the train's destination. Or maybe not.

From the article Richard links to:

Quote:
The instigator [of the Boaty Mcboatface name], former BBC presenter James Hand, has since apologised to the NERC after his suggestion sparked the mass vote.
NERC are probably delighted with the publicity - and they have their 'Get out of jail free' card in that they do not have to accept the result of the poll.

Is it that new town they're trying to build next to the Eurostar station at Ebbsfleet, perhaps? But that's in Kent not Surrey, Sussex or Hampshire which the train would have gone through.

Buffy speak! Of course. That's why I think of it as an Americanism. It's Joss Wheedon, not Blackadder.

(eta) Although the page gives an example from Friends, which would probably have been before Buffy. Depends exactly which episode...

(eta again) I see I found two of the three similar Blackadder examples that are featured.

I've added Trainy McTrainface to the TV Tropes page as a response to your addition, too...

Took a while to recover my login details because I've not edited it for ages, and have at least two names on there, one of which appears not to be associated with any variation of my current email address. I guess I created it before you needed an email address to be "known"... I think when I first added an example, you didn't need to have an account or be "known" at all.

Air Force needs help naming new bomber, Twitter hilariously delivers

Boaty McBoatface is one suggestion. But my favorite is Da Bomb Diggity

Da Bomb Diggity is pretty great, but I do have a soft spot for Stealthy McHidden and Che-Che-Che-Cherry Bomber.

The Tempe Police Department wants help in naming their new horse. Knowing the internet, they are asking for suggestions and the mounted unit will pick their favorite three for an online vote.

My question: Would Boaty McBoatface be funnier than Horsey McHorseface?

ETA: As a serious name, I'd go for John Morgan or Richard Harris for A Man Called Horse.

I would go with Horsey McHorseface. Boaty McBoatface is more humorous in context and if they knew the context they wouldn't be having a contest of their own.

My usual go-to horse name is Shadowfax, but the horse isn't all white so that wouldn't work.

I think Horsey McHorseface is a great name for a horse, but Lord Von Horsington would be better.

This being the Internet, it will probably end up being named Sarah Jessica Parker. There's this weird meme, I think started by South Park, that says she looks like a horse. I don't get it... I'm old... get off my lawn, ya damn kids!

I don't agree with or use that meme, but I assume the people who do are alluding to her having what they consider an unusually/unattractively long face.

Some people think that the Secretary of State looks like a horse, so I wouldn't be surprised to find "John Kerry" somewhere in the submissions.

The city is in the desert. I don't think they should give the horse a name.

It's funny you know, because I think that is the same episode with a book about a certain character with a possibly NSFW (at least kind of disgusting) name. And every time I see this thread's title, I can't help but think of that name... Now THAT would be a great name for a horse or a boat.
