Hi,
My name is Elizabeth and I live in Alaska. I'm a bit intimidated by this, but I thought I'd give it a try and post on this thread. I'll answer the questions and practice quoting later, I promise. I just wanted to introduce myself and say "hello!"

Hi, Elizabeth. Welcome to the funnest place around. So, do you know my aunt? She lives in Alaska, too. Just kidding. That's always annoyed me when someone finds out you're from somewhere and just assumes you know everyone.

Now that has worked for me more than once. A friend was on an airplane from somewhere in Africa to Europe and was sitting next to someone who he found out worked for NASA. Yes, the person knew me.

I was once in a shop in Grand Rapids when a couple from the town that same friend was living in (in Minnesota) were in line ahead of me. I asked them if they knew my friend, and they did (they went to the same church).

So I will always ask the question....

Well, if she lives in Nome or Juneau I probably do know her.
Thanks for the welcome. I've been visiting this site for about 8 years now and finally became a memeber!

But Doug, we all know you're strange and peculiar.

Welcome!

Your first lesson!

What is the archived messageboard and how do you access it?

OK, I'll give this a try.
You go to "About This Site" then "Announcements" Then the "Archived Messageboard" thread and there's the link!
http://msgboard.snopes.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Is that right, or is there a more direct way to get there?

Not exactly. She's right in the fact that she gave the correct link, but she only answered half of the question.

The remaing part would be the old message board was the existing message board that was used until snopes changed over to vB.

ETA: Welcome to the board!

  1. What is the first posting guideline?
  2. What are the ages of the youngest, and oldest, registered posters?
  3. Link to at least three threads where the word "sloth" was used.
  4. What is a "bookachow" and how is it properly used?
  5. What is a sock puppet?
Hi everybody! I have been lurking here for some time, and I decided that it was time to introduce myself! Lets see, I am 33, married to the lovely Mrs. Centex, and we have one little texling, we also have 2 dogs.

I enjoy spending time with my family and outdoors--hunting, fishing and camping out, as well as Dutch oven cooking

I work for a fairly large non-profit. I consider myself fairly conservative, especially on fiscal matters. I am conservative-libertarian on social issues. I try to be open minded; I may not agree with you, but I will try to give you the benefit of dicusssion. I also think it is important to remember that behind the screen names and message boards there are real people.

I can't think of anything else about me at the moment so, on to the questions!!

1. Do a search, there is a chance that it has already been discussed.
2. 13 and 93
3. Here, Here and here.
4. Bookachow is the noise a lightning fast snopes superhero goes to retreive something that has already been discussed. It is a link to the previous, with the name _____ a-chow.
5. A sock puppet is an alter-ego that you create to have a conversation with yourself . Seriously, they are used to stir up trouble. They are dscouraged or against the rules here as well as on most boards that I am aware of.

Alright. Do I pass? does someone send me a certificate? Do I get a toaster? (or is that a different initiation? )

Ah. The super secret questions now.

1. In what direction does North Valley Mills run?
2. What is a gownless evening strap and who wears it?

1. Almost due west (just slightly north of west)
2. I have no idea... I have only lived here for 3 years--Do I fail?

Nah, no failing. It was an attempt to see if you went to school where I did. A gownless evening strap is the preferred attire at the NoZe annual pink tea.

I always found it amusing that the ONE street in Waco that runs a true direction, east and west, is named NORTH Valley Mills.

Doesn't I-35 pretty much run North/South through Waco? Does that count?

Meh, after a few hours at George's, they all run pretty crooked.

That is what I thought you were getting at (North Valley Mills)! I may have used the wrong smiley.

I grew up about 2 hours northwest of Waco and spent the 10 years prior to moving here in Lubbock.

I don't think I-35 counts.

Default Greetings

Hi Snopesters!
My name is Dan, I'm kind of an 'old online friend' of Frogfeathers (Patty) and after hearing all the time about what a great place Snopes is.. I realized I wasn't a Snopester and had to remedy that. I live in Southeast South Dakota, I play lead guitar for "Midnight Special" an area classic rock band, and lately due to currently going through a bitter "D" I spend a lot of time on here. Anyway, I'm pretty calm and easy-going.

I guess I have a few questions to answer. Homework on my first day..

1. What is the first posting guideline? Check to see if the topic has been posted about before making a new one.
2. What are the ages of the youngest, and oldest, registered posters?
I believe I read they are 13 and 93
3. Link to at least three threads where the word "sloth" was used.
http://message.snopes.com/showthread...ighlight=sloth
http://message.snopes.com/showthread...ighlight=sloth
http://message.snopes.com/showthread...ighlight=sloth
4. What is a "bookachow" and how is it properly used? a bookachow is when you insert a link to help someone find relevant information
5. What is a sock puppet? this is an alternate account people create to talk to themselves or back themeselves up in arguments. Its quite frowned upon.

Any friend of F_F is welcome here!

IMHO (if you don't know what that means, I guess it would qualify my comment if you could find out?)

Hi there.

So, I had a baby, moved (again) across many states AND allowed my account to become deactivated! How could I?

So, hello to those who remember me, nice to meet you to those who don't, and (activate whine) do I HAVE to go through initiation again?
