Fright This house in upstate New York is completely encased in ice

This house encased in snow and ice up to 7 inches thick may look fake, but photographer John Kucko assures his social media followers itís anything but.

The beach home in Webster, New York, about 5 miles from Rochester, is located in a ďvery remoteĒ area near the shoreline of Lake Ontario. In the spring and summer, itís a weekend getaway; but when it comes to winter, itís more of a hazard than anything else.

I'm surprised the house is structurally sound if that happens on a regular basis. Ice is heavy!

Maybe those are lived-in during the winter, with inhabitants clearing the ice and heating hindering the build up in the first place?

The article says that neighboring houses have retaining walls. Also, if the other houses are inhabited, then residual heat (plus the residents periodically clearing off the ice) may also be responsible.

ETA: Oops, should have refreshed.

Baseball

My Mom grew up right across Lake Ontario from Webster, on an island. Her front door was less than 10 metres (or so) from the lake. She has several photos showing the front of the house looking similar.

Lake Ontario can be an unforgiving force.
