Default Longest total lunar eclipse of 21st century coming Friday

https://abcnews.go.com/International...ry?id=56718699

It won't be visible from North America, alas, because this part would be pretty damned impressive:

Quote:
The entire event -- beginning as the moon passes through the Earth's stratosphere -- will last about six hours and 13 minutes.
Um...if the moon is going to be passing through Earth's stratosphere...Houston, we have a problem...

I assume someone forgot "shadow of" between "the" and "Earth's".

Also, there are so few chances to use "penumbra", we must take them when we can get them.

I am looking forward to seeing the "Will the moon pass through Earth's stratosphere on July 27?" page on snopes soon.

Weather prediction for Friday evening after 4 solid days of sun? Partly cloudy. Hopefully we can see something. It'll be warm enough to stay outside, that's for darn sure.

Weather prediction for here? Doesn't really matter since the eclipse is not visible from the USA. Thanks Trump!

Yes, that's what happened in the UK essentially. After over a month of heatwave the weather broke on Friday and it was too cloudy to see much! (And now the heatwave is apparently due back...)
