Daryl Dragon of pop duo Captain and Tennille, more widely known as the "Captain," died at the age of 76 Wednesday due to renal failure at a hospice in Prescott, Arizona, his publicist said.
Dragon, known as the keyboard-playing husband in the group, died with his former wife of nearly 40 years, Toni Tennille, by his side. https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/l...yhYb96YGplj5bQ |

Aw, shoot.
![]() My brother and I loved Muskrat Love. We thought it was the funniest thing ever, especially that warbling keyboard music near the end. Uproarious peals of giggles from the both of us. ![]() |

I always liked that his real name was Dragon, but he went by Captain instead. He just sort of downplayed the whole freakin' DRAGON part.

My Mom quite enjoyed their music. She had a few LPs that would magically make their way to the turntable on Saturday mornings.
Good memories. Now, I will have to see if they have any songs out on iTunes... |

The Captain and Tennille was my first concert, at the New York State Fair in 1976. In my defense, I was ten.

Why do you think you need a defense?
My first concert was The Carpenters. Seaboe |

My first concert was the Starland Vocal Band/John Denver. This would have been when I was around 10 or 11. I loved me some John Denver when I was a kid.
Seaboe--The Carpenters was a question on last night's Jeopardy. Karen had on hell of a voice. |

My first two concerts were the Captain and Tennille. Two of my next concerts were John Denver. I have always liked them. I always will.

First concert was John Denver. I still love his music. His Christmas albums (one solo, one with the Muppets) are the first holiday music to be played ever year.
Second concert was Chris de Burgh. Then Neil Diamond. Easy listening was apparently my jam. |

I've seen him 3 times. Always good.
My older sister was a fan back in the 70's. She went to see him in Toronto (Massey Hall). After the show, she wandered back stage, acting like she belonged there. Got taken to meet him, shared some wine, met his wife. Then on the next tour, same venue, did the same thing. |

Yeah but the Ultimate Collection: Captain & Tennille album is a better deal--and provides a much more thorough overview though it still skimps on their last two major releases, Make Your Move and Keeping Our Love Warm; it does feature the singles released from the former but ignores "This Is Not the First Time" from the latter album--a song that was their last real single release (I remember seeing C&T perform the song on "American Bandstand" and Toni told Dick Clark that they'd offered it to Cher for her "Black Rose" rock group project but Toni said Cher turned it down as "not rock enough"; in fairness, the song as C&T performed it did lean to a more dance-oriented sound but would fit in to a playlist featuring songs like "Hot Stuff," "Beat It" and "Black Cat"). While the album may skimp a bit on the last album (offering a pair of album cuts instead), it does stand out by including "Por Amor Viviremos," the Spanish-language version of "Love Will Keep Us Together." Currently, The Millennium Collection is on iTunes for $4.99 for 12 songs while Ultimate Collection is $7.99 for 22 tracks.
