Icon07 Microwave cleaning tip

Comment: I have heard that you can easily clean a dirty microwave by
placing fresh cut lemons in a bowl of water and then microwaving the bowl
until it boils. Is this true?

It doesn't even have to be lemons. Lemon juice in some water in a microwave-proof measuring cup works just fine. I put it on for about 5 minutes, and then let it cool before wiping everything down.

It even cleaned the smoke that got all through my microwave the time that my 9yo thought it would be a good idea to heat up a Poptart for ten minutes.

I'll try it. If it gets me out of 'real' cleaning work...

If you use sponges in your kitchen, wet them and microwave for a minute. The steam loosens up the dried food inside the microwave. Also, sponges are the #1 favorite place for bacteria to grow and microwaving also sanitizes them.
