I don't think the TARDIS' dislike of Clara is jealousy. She had no issue with River who was much closer to The Doctor. I'd guess it was because of Clara's existance throughout all points of his life .

Personally, I don't see a problem with a female Doctor. All of the Doctors have had different personalities, mannerisms and interests.

The main problem I'd have would similar to another snopester in that I'd be worried the writing wouldn't be up to it. Also, would they change to a sole male Companion or would they continue with the female Companion? While they've done well with Captain Jack and Jenny and Madame Vastra, would they be up to the two central characters being of the same sex with possible UST involved? Ideally, they'd find another Catherine Tate, who was much more about plantonic friendship than possible romance. If they used a male Companion, then that would be either be a complete personality change for The Doctor as he's generally always favoured female Companions (when just one) over males. Or to have him switch to males when he's female would mean that most his previous choices were based on romantic thoughts based on body parts, which is a bit creepy given the age differential.

Not saying they shouldn't do it, but it could end up being more of a gimmick than anything else.

Well, I remember, way back in the 70s, that a mvie about the life of Bruce Lee was being cast. Among the people who went to the casting for the main part wee Asians, of course, but also Caucasians, Blacks... and women ! So why not a woman for the Doctor ? Although, now as then, I think it would be a bad idea.
