I think that modern day Republicans would consider Eisenhower too liberal to be a member of the GOP. That goes for most of the classic Republicans - even Nixon would be considered too much a of a bleeding heart liberal.

Heck, even Reagan wouldn't pass muster if they considered his real record. He compromised with the Democrats now and then, among other things.
