Dear Gambit and Quddich,

Your brother just had a vasectomy. I promise, he has not been changed into a woman. Plus, you three are a family, which makes your continued attempts to flirt with him rather off putting. He is not impressed with your gifts of toys or chews, and he certainly doesn't want to be mounted. Back off and act like brothers again. We are not living in a VC Andrews novel.

Dear Zane:

I miss you so much. Rupert is very nice, but he isn't you. Be a good kitty for St. Gertrude until I can come for you.

Dog

Dear Mocha Marie,
You were the best dog in the world and I am sorry we could not find out what was wrong with you before you left us. The house has not been the same since you’re gone. So we have adopted a rescue. She will never take your place but she hopefully will bring labbie life back to the house.
P.S. Sorry, she has been making herself at home on the couch. I didn’t allow you on the couch but I know you got up there anyway when I wasn’t looking.
Love,
Your ‘mom’

Enoch, sweetie.

I know you want to go outside. It's nice, the sun is out, there are interesting critters out there.

I will only allow you outside on a leash and harness... and I KNOW how you are going to take to that.

Still, your choice.

~mom

Immy, it really isn't necessary for me to add more food to your dish every time I go by it. It really isn't.

Also why do you eat one area down to the bowl and then become convinced that the entire bowl is empty?

Elkhound and chocolate kisses, long-distance hugs; and closeup hugs from your current household members.

chocolate kisses, there's something about the dog hair all over the couch that's a bit of a giveaway, isn't there, even when the dog has learned to be innocently down on the floor by the time the human gets into the room?

StillandSilent, maybe they are acting like brothers. I have seen similar behavior between littermates when there have not yet been any altering trips to the vet.; including males mounting males.

Dear Enchanting_eyes,

We do not think that we needed a new dog.

Grumpily yours,

Bailey and Martini

p.s.: even though we'll probably get over it eventually.

Yeah, and her sleep drool and the spot still being warm when we got home were the huge clue!

The odd thing is, they didn't do this before the vasectomy, nor did they do it directly after. Its like they woke up three weeks later and are obsessed with him. Both are neutered males. When Quid first came (he is a foster dog) he had never been around an intact male and he did try mounting a few times, but it stopped quickly. Gambit has never been a mounter, but now they're both fighting to get Gimmicks attention. Its kind of sweet, but creepy at the same time.

StillandSilent, that's particularly odd if what he had was a vasectomy rather than a standard neutering, as with a vasectomy I wouldn't think that his hormone production would change significantly.

If it was a standard neutering, I suppose it might take some time for the previous hormones to work out of his system.

-- Maybe as they're neutered they're not trying to work out a sexual impulse, but trying to revamp the dominance order?

ETA: Enchanting_eyes, I just took a look at unhijackable. Very sorry that it didn't work out!

Hi Elkhound --

Cats don't all do the same odd thing. If they did, it would cease to be an odd thing.

Although, actually, Galloping Cat(s) In The Night is fairly common -- more so with young cats, though some older ones will do it.

Lil' Kim, I know you like to put on a show, but the painting is not a stage. Don't dance on it. And careful kicking up dust and seed hulls! The country road can take a bit of it but unless I'm painting Oklahoma c. 1932 the sky doesn't need it.

Dear Puffer fish,
I am allowed to walk past your tank several times a day if I so desire without feeding you.

Plus the fact your food plate is whte doesn't negate anything else white being food mens I don't over feed you.

Plus pink thngs in your tank tend to be hands/fingers and not food.

Please wait until supper.
love the food provider...not the food-provider.

Dear Mozart,

I know that after 17 years, we were expecting you not to be with us much longer, but I still wish you had managed to hang on a bit longer. Another 40 years probably would have done it.

me, no really: I am sorry for your loss.

17 years is a good run; but it's never really long enough, is it?

Dear Rupert~

Don't think because I'm crying over Zane I don't love you.

Also, those neighborhood cats fighting in the back yard don't need your color commentary.
