I am in sight of paying off my mortgage.

So what happens then? Does my mortgage company send me a check for the balance of the escrow account automatically? Will my home owner's insurance start billing me directly as well? Do I need to make arrangements for these things?

When we paid off our mortgage, the escrow company did send us a check after a bit to make sure everything was closed. We contacted the homeowner"'s insurance company to switch payment. We use the same company for auto and home but we needed to send the insurance company a physical check to formalize it. The taxes are collected by the county here. The escrow company should notify them of the change, but make sure. Our taxes are paid twice a year, but they only send one Bill that covers both payment tof.

PS. Congratulations.

In an ideal world, you'd probably have to do nothing.

In looking outside, I don't think it is an ideal world out there, so once you have made the last payment, I'd communicate with the mortgage company to make sure they send you any balance in the escrow account.

You would also need to contact both your insurance company and your tax authority, advising them that there is no longer a mortgage and that they are to bill you directly for both of these items.

Although I still have a few years on the mortgage for my rental townhouse, I got the mortgage company out of the escrow business many years ago, and I've been taking care of the insurance and real property taxes on my own.

Yes.

I don't know this, but it's probably a good idea to reach out to them and ask. Even if they know about it, they could need billing info from you, and you don't want a gap in coverage if something goes wrong.

Thanks, all! I will get in touch with my mortgage holder and home insurer. I will probably be changing my home insurer anyway, so I can just coordinate that at the same time. I have a couple more months at this point so there is time.

Beach, I know your question's been answered, but wanted to give my 2 cents as well. Going by my experience, they will send you instructions. My mortgage was held by a bank. They sent me instructions more than once (because I put off paying it off as long as I could).

I had to pay an amount that they calculated based on the remainder of the loan and any currently pending expenses. After they had a chance to audit the loan, they sent me the money from the escrow account. They were set up that you could not just let the last payment be withdrawn from the account and escrow; it had to be paid with a cashier's check.

Am I the only one who sees the Fall background every time I log onto Snopes?

Yes, that's the one. So it's just not me.
Congratulations on paying off your mortgage! It's truly a sweet feeling.

Me too. I'd quit paying any attention to it, though.

Eventually it'll be right again . . .

I think it is right, since today is the first day of fall for the Australians and New Zealanders. Maybe snopes is trying to make them feel at home?

Are there famous screenwriters?

I don't mean actors or directors or novelists who were already famous and also wrote screenplays. I mean people who became well-known for their screenplays. The best I could come up with (depending on your definition of "famous") would be Budd Schulberg, William Goldman and Paddy Chayevsky.

Aaron Sorkin comes immediately to mind.(ETA - Spanked by damian. Not sure about some of those others. Nora Ephron seems to fit the bill. As does Neil Simon (although playwright/screenwriter). Not Stone, though. He's really more known for his directing. Same goes for some of the others, Hughes, Tarantino... )

So I was at the grocery store tonight and saw the National Enquirer at the checkout line. As usual they had some stupid pro-Trump anti-Clinton headline. My stupid question - why are they a mouthpiece for Trumpery? Don't they go after scandals wherever they can find them? Or are they, and have they always been, just another way the Republicans can appeal to the stupid that walks among us?

I live out way in the middle of nowhere and I keep trying to track down various services and businesses, but I am not having much luck. Anyone know any websites that can help. I've tried Google but it doesn't help much and the online yellow pages suck as much as the actual physical copy.

National Equirer goes after sales. I'd guess they find or expect pro Trump people to be better buyers of rumor and innuendo based stories

I have the green background with the white flowers.

Is that spring? Is the website confused about the hemispheres or has it been corrected?
