My husband's granddaughter (well... we're married so I guess she's my granddaughter, too... it just feels weird to me to say that ) got a furry little bundle of joy for Christmas. We went over there today for belated gift exchanges.

This is Velvet, curled up on my lap and taking advantage of my awkward arm position to get in an adorable little catnap.

Now, I'm not a veterinarian and I don't play one on TV, but I'm worried about little Velvet. I think the poor kitten is boneless.

She is the softest, floppiest kitten! I know cats are springy and flexible, but she takes it to the next level. When we were there yesterday, she'd only been with the family for a few days, and she's already got a nickname: Liquid Kitty.

TGG, how old is Velvet? I'm wondering if she is a littermate of my Steely Dan (he's almost 7 months old). What would be the chances?

Here's a picture of my Minnie-kitty taken during a rare moment of rest. I keep wondering when she will become a lazy, surly cat and stop being a psycho-kitten. We got her in 2013 and she shows no sign of slowing down.

Oh, pretty Minnie with a white tip to her tail!

-- which she looks as if she's contemplating pouncing upon.

It'd be a nice change from her biting me so I'll throw her little foam ball. Keep trying to tell her that biting does not help me find the ball faster nor does her being underfoot, thus making it more likely she'll get her tail stepped on or run over, but so far I've had no luck.

Though with that white tip on her tail, you can tell almost exactly what she's feeling just by watching that tip.

She looks a lot like my daughter's cat Rin. I don't remember when Rin stopped being a hyper kitten; she'll be 11 this year, I think. Now she's just your basic cranky tortie.

We have the same cat tower for our younger cat. He loves it since it is near the chair the older cat sleeps on, so he can leap onto her from it. She doesn't love it quite as much. Also I think that the feather dangling beneath it said something mean about the cat's mother at some point because he is determined to destroy it.

I put it in front of the window (obviously the curtains are closed in that picture, but there a window behind them) because he kept trying to get up onto the window sill, even though there are other windows he can look out much more easily. Actually that's part of the reason I decided to get him a cat tower in the first place. I'd planned on getting a shorter one that would be more or less the height of the window sill, but Petsmart had this one on sale for cheaper than most of the smaller ones.
