Snake Snakes on tires

Comment: Hello, I was wondering if any such rumor is true. My mother is
highly afraid of snakes and will not run one over (alive or dead) in fear
that the snake will some how wrap around the tire somehow and be waiting
for her when she gets out. My question is, is it even possible if an alive
snake was to wrap around the tire somehow would it still be alive when she
arrived home?

Around the tire? So that the tread was squashing it into the pavement with every bit of movement? The description would have to be either circular like thread on a bobbin, in which some part at every moment would be crushed, or like a band around both sides, which would have two parts crushed every time the tire made a single rotation. This is not healthy for the snake.

There are only two ways for a snake to survive on a moving tire. One is to fit between the treads, but it could not readily hold to the sides unless it was as wide as the gaps, but the gaps are not as deep as they are wide generally, and they get squished down where in contact with the ground, so the snake would both be squashed and be beaten against the ground with every turn. Or, it could climb inside the hubcap; it could survive that, but it could not possible accomplish this feat if a vehicle is moving, particularly if part of the snake was pinned to the ground by the tire running over it.

This is way too much analysis for a really stupid concept.

Snake

Around the axle, maybe. But yeah, unless it's teeny tiny snake that fits in the tread (in which case I don't think it would be much of a threat), not around the tire.

On the other hand, if believing this causes the person to avoid running over snakes, maybe she should keep right on believing it. I have the uneasy feeling that she might otherwise be trying to run over them.

Snakes and round, spinny things do not mix, and the snake always loses.

Warning snakes, gore and snake gore await...

I was visiting some friends in Colorado, and there was quite a bit of unseasonal rain during my stay. Basically, the lower part of my friends' apartment complex was flooding. We decided that I should move my car to higher ground.

I waded through mid-calf level water to my car, got in, and moved it to the upper lot. When I got out, there were about 12 dead green snakes kind of hanging off of my car. They had apparently sought refuge within my wheels, and when I drove off, they tried to escape, and it became some morbid clown car slapping snakes on the ground until they die thing.

Needless to say, the snakes were no longer in any shape to attack anything, and I only traveled about 1/8 of a mile at around 5MPH.
