Icon106 Six degrees of collaboration, music edition

Inspired by this thread, I thought we might try it in game form:

The rules:

The goal is to connect two musical acts through a series of personal musical interactions. One artist covering or simply sampling another artist's song doesn't count! What does count:

1) Performing in the same band/group (even if at different times is OK; we'll assume that one could trace a path via other band members).

2) Playing as a session artist on an album.

3) Appearing as a guest artist, duet partner, etc.

4) Touring together.

5) Producing an album for another artist.

Much as "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" purists look down on using the movie "She's Having a Baby" as a link due to the extensive cameos, I'm going to discourage using megaprojects such as Live Aid, USA for Africa, etc. And of course, don't use the computer program linked from the other thread to cheat! (Googling for confirmation of links is OK.)

For example (from the other thread):

Menudo to Frank Zappa

1) Menudo had Ricky Martin, who performed a duet with
2) Joss Stone, who performed a duet with
3) Angélique Kidjo, who performed a duet with
4) Peter Gabriel, who regularly plays with
5) Tony Levin, who
6) Was in King Crimson with Adrian Belew, who performed with
7) Frank Zappa!

Whoever comes up with a complete thread picks the next artist.

To start the ball rolling:

The Everly Brothers to Parliament Funkadelic

I think I've got it...

1. P-funk frontman George Clinton produced the Freaky Styley album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose lineup later included
2. Chad Smith, who played drums on Kid Rock's Born Free album, which also featured
3. Bob Seger (who also collaborated with Kid Rock on a couple of his own songs), who recorded "Chances Are" with
4. Martina McBride, who sang backup on "Trip Around the Sun" by
5. Jimmy Buffett, who sang backup on "I Love This Town" by
6. Nanci Griffith, who sang "Just Another Morning Here" with backing vocals by...
7. Phil Everly.

Now am I supposed to toss out a pair?

Not the path I had in mind, but it works! Go for it!

ETA: You must have been pretty bored to resurrect this D.O.A. thread attempt of mine! Let's see if anyone else will nibble!

Well, do share the path you did have in mind! Since George Clinton has been active since the fifties, I figured there was a more direct link but I couldn't think of any.

I can't think of any good pairs on my own at the moment, but I'll be back if I think of any. Anyone else in the meantime?
