I saw they answered a bunch of your questions erwins, but yeah, it will probably be a few days to get that big a pipe repaired. Just shutting off the water would take a while, and then just finding a 30" pipe...good luck. Too bad you didn't have a surf board ready.

Thanks. Luckily, our power came back on about an hour ago. Just as I was gathering flashlights and lanterns and checking how cold it was going to get tonight. We are at the edge of the affected area, so maybe they cleared the houses in our little part of the.grid.

I was about to suggest looking for hotels since you have young children but thankfully things are looking up for you.

What is the "standard" ettiquette regarding settings on toasters in a shared office? I ask because someone keeps setting the toaster to its maximum setting and leaving it there. On this toaster, maximum (9) means very, very burnt toast, possibly even heavy smoke, well-toasted, but not burnt toast is about a 6.

I would say that the standard should be to either set the toaster back to its previous setting, or at least set it to a mid/low setting that won't burn toast (4 or 5).

I think the standard should be to check the toaster setting before making toast. I do that on my toaster and I don't share it with anyone.

I like my English Muffins to be very well cooked, but I suspect that someone is just cranking it up and using the cancel button in which case they should be crank it back down when they are done.

My former work kitchen (a counter near the dumbwaiter and over a mini-fridge) people would print out messages such as "please don't (rude thing)". So maybe a sticky note asking for a medium setting?

Or you could figure out who is doing it and change their setting to 1 every time they toast.
