Default Sailor in iconic V-J Day Times Square kiss photo dies at 95

The ecstatic sailor shown kissing a woman in Times Square celebrating the end of World War II died Sunday. George Mendonsa was 95.......

Friedman said in a 2005 interview with the Veterans History Project that it wasn't her choice to be kissed. "The guy just came over and kissed or grabbed," she told the Library of Congress.

Statue of World War II sailor kissing woman vandalized days after man in iconic photo dies

A statue inspired by the iconic photograph of a World War II sailor kissing a woman in Times Square, New York City, was vandalized just days after the sailor in the photograph died.

Yeah, that wasn't a consensual kiss.

D'oh!

When I was studying WW2 in middle school, that picture was in my text book. My mom asked me at the time if looked like the woman was a willing participant. I studied the photo, saw that the sailor pretty much has her trapped in a modified headlock, and she's just hanging limp, and said "Nope!" "I'll guarantee you she wasn't" Mom said.

The comments on the article were pretty much 50/50 "Hey! He's Happy! The war was over!" vs "So what!?! Still doesn't make it right!"
