Goldfish life insurance

Comment: Several years ago, I heard a story that may have been an urban
myth, but it does sound plausible (to me)...

A man kept receiving unsolicited life insurance applications in the mail.
Finally, he filled one of the applications out, listing his pet goldfish
as the insured, himself as the beneficiary and sent it back with the
premium. He began receiving monthly bills for the premium and he
dutifully paid them. When his goldfish eventually died a few years later,
he submitted a claim.

The insurance company refused, responding that the policy was invalid.
The man sued the insurance company and the judge ruled in his favor,
telling the insurance company that the man had filled out the application
truthfully, they accepted his premium payments without ever complaining,
so they should pay him the insured value of the policy.
