In the Home Alone movies, Kevin used scenes from old black and white gangster movies to fool people into thinking someone yelling and shooting at them ("Keep the change, ya filthy animal"). Were those clips taken from actual movies, or were they made specifically for Home Alone?

According to the IMDB trivia page, the scenes were created for Home Alone. The scenes are from a mock movie named Angels with Filthy Souls, a play on the James Cagney movie Angels with Dirty Faces.

Furthermore, the director apparently insisted that it be shot on vintage film stock for added authenticity. Here's a neat article on the making of the movie-within-the-movie.
