Canada Officer injured in suspected terror attack in Edmonton

Quote:
Edmonton police believe an unprovoked knife attack on an officer controlling traffic outside a football game and a high-speed chase of a moving van that struck and injured four pedestrians were acts of terrorism.

At a news conference early Sunday morning, Chief Rod Knecht said police have a 30-year-old man in custody and they think he acted alone. But Knecht stressed it is early in the investigation and they aren't ruling out that others were involved.

An Islamic State militants flag was seized as evidence, he said
Cripes. I was watching the football game online for a bit.

I'm glad no one was killed. The fallout from this will be interesting.

Two people have been killed in a knife attack at Marseille's Saint Charles train station. The assailant has been shot dead by security forces in the southern French city. The incident is being treated as an act of terrorism, media report.
"Two victims have been stabbed to death," regional police chief Olivier de Mazieres told AFP.

Coincidence? Or are they stepping up attacks?

I think this is coincidence. Both look like "lone wolf" attacks, which are not necessarily coordinated, or even ordered by ISIL.

I'm not even sure, based upon reporting, that the one in Edmonton is a true terror attack. The ISIL flag was found, but it looks more like a suicide by cop gone wrong, with a flag to sow confusion around everyone.

But, we'll definitely hear more over the next five days or so.

We also just had an incident here in Melbourne where a 15 year old kid dressed in 'combat gear' was driving a car erratically (in the exact same spot that a guy ran over and killed 6 people earlier this year) and attacked police with a baton. Luckily no one was killed or seriously injured.

A passerby helped stop his car by grabbing a hire bike and throwing it under his wheels.

It seems like there was quite the community effort to stop the 15yo driver. That’s heartening.
