Icon97 Daycare workers' 'horrible' act to get two-year-olds to calm down

Once you get past the breathless headline...

Three daycare workers have been charged after they allegedly fed toddlers laced gummy bears in a bid to get them to calm down before nap time.

Police were called to the Kiddie Junction daycare centre in Chicago, US, on Friday after a manager believed a teacher had been giving lollies laced with melatonin to a group of two-year-olds without their parents' consent.

For what it's worth Wikipedia gives the side effects of Melatonin as:

Melatonin can cause nausea, next-day grogginess, and irritability.

But it could equally have been prescription sedatives and it's a total breach of trust.

Also, it's reckless, IMO, to give dietary supplements like melatonin with no knowledge of the children's health history or what medications they might take.
