Facebook Should Facebook Buy Snopes?

Perhaps the algorithms that currently find disputed posts could flag them for human review by a Snopes-like fact-checking team—heck, it could even buy Snopes. Once they'd researched the facts in the story and determined its accuracy, they could overlay a badge like the ones that already populate the Snopes site—an X in a red circle for "false"; a check mark in a green circle for "true"—on one corner of the link preview in the post.

It would certainly anger a large segment of the population who don't like facts getting in the way of them blasting their ignorance to everyone they know. It would lose them a lot of people in the short term. But letting it fester could also be a longer term risk, if the nonsense corrodes and hollows out their community. Social media entities can die out if they let a toxic minority make it a painful experience for everyone else.

Do you think Facebook has enough money to buy it from George Soros?
