I hope the plan isn't to shut down this board before the new one is up.

Yeah, that would be doing it backwards.

Maybe I am reading that statement wrong, but that appears to be the case.

Hmm... followed the directions on the link, and it said that it just sent me an email I'm supposed to open to confirm, but it's not showing up in my inbox (or the spam folder - I checked!)

ETA: Just tried again in case I somehow mistyped my address the first time around, but still no luck.

It worked for me, but the confirmation email did indeed go into my spam folder, and I had to fish it out.

musicgeek, is it possible your ISP is blocking some presumed spam from even getting into your spam folder?

-- and yes I hope this board doesn't disappear first and leave us all hanging waiting for email to come through; and with no way to say on here if something goes wrong with our signup on the new boards. I'm remembering that for no reason I could figure out I was unable to sign up on reddit.

It worked for me, and the email was in my inbox seconds later.

It hasn't worked for me (yet). It isn't in my spam folder, but since I've had this kind of thing happen before from other legitimate sources, I suspect the ISP might be dumping it before it gets to me.

I know the address itself is working because I've been getting the usual traffic to it even up to a few minutes ago as of this writing.

Worked for me. To think that this is the second message board change for me--I've been here for ages!

Have you tried putting the source address in your address folder? It is marketing at snopes dot com.

Psihala, can you adjust your preferences at the ISP so it doesn't screen as strictly, or else lets you look at everything it screened out and move items you don't think are spam to your inbox?

I got the email within 10 seconds of signing up, and I expect I'd be among the first batch of culls, so probably not. server issues, I expect.

Y'all, it's not a sign up to the Discourse forum, it's a sign up to get an e-mail to let you know what the Discourse forum is live and where to find it, then you'd go sign up for the new forum.

If you don't get the e-mail it either wound up in your spam or promo folder or your ISP is blocking the company (which appears to be Campaign Monitor) from sending e-mail. I used my Google mail and it came right through. In any event, assuming this isn't going to be a super secret new forum you can probably find out when it's live via other sources, like their web page or the Facebook group.

This may well be true; but I'm glad my email came through, because at least right now I can't find anything on the main snopes page linking to either the forum or the facebook page; and I can't find the facebook page, because any attempt at googling leads me only to huge numbers of hits for things snopes said about facebook at one time or another, and any attempt to go to facebook and look runs into the problem that I don't have, and won't get, a facebook account. The page itself might be visible if one's not logged in, I've no idea; but I don't seem to be able to search for it.

And everything I've found so far on discourse has either been about signing in to a specific site hosted there, or about setting up a site on discourse. There doesn't seem to be a search function visible; all I get is a handful of sites they felt like putting on the first page, or an option for a random walk. So I haven't figured out how to search discourse, either.

Again, I did get the email, so I'm hoping that will eventually give me a link to something that I can get to work. But if I disappear, that's what happened.
