Default This afternoon I saw a red-tailed hawk

This afternoon I saw a red tailed hawk sitting on the edge of a flooded pecan grove. It should be noted that the trees in the grove are very young and only about 6 feet tail and still are without leaves. That means the hawk was essentially fully out in the open. The bird did not seem alarmed by my approach. I hope it wasn't injured.

Hawks will perch on whatever's available, even if that's nothing but a fence post.

We found a juvenile red-tail on the ground and in distress. We took it to an animal rescue facility. After blood tests they discovered it had been poisoned. Unfortunately after two days of treatment and a brief rally, it died.

The vet explained this is a common scenario: A business puts out poisoned rodent bait, raptors eat the poisoned rats and mice, and the birds are poisoned too.

Why do you want to hurt Tony Hawk?

Chicken

It is the only way to keep him from grinding on the bird bath.

Perhaps it was tired and shagged out from a long squawk.

Beautiful plumage, however.

It would be awesome if any appearance of the red-tailed hawk was accompanied by the sound of... any other hawk or eagle, basically.

It'd have to be a bald eagle that gets dubbed over.

True story: On my NextDoor forum, one of my neighbors posted, "I've been seeing a lot of red-tailed hawks around here, anybody know why?"

Response from another neighbor: "Maybe you've noticed the local elementary school is called Red Hawk Ridge?"

Yes, I would not be putting any portion of me anywhere near that beak!
