She came out of nowhere, and in a flash she was gone.

And nearly four decades later the surprise encounter between a little girl and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy still haunts Howard Bingham.

United States

That is amazing. The photographer who took the famous photo of the Aghan refugee girl in about 1980 returned and found her. Yet, here in the United States, we can't identify a girl from Los Angeles.

It says something about us, but I am not sure what.

I don't see anything 'haunting' about this shot, not indeed anything problematic concerning why she was never tracked down, there must be a thousand reasons why she couldn't be found - people change, people move, people forget, people die...

When I was a young-in I had to do a report on Massachusetts and I fired a letter off to then Senator from Massachusetts Robert Kennedy. He sent me back a nice hand written letter and the information. Do you think I kept that letter.....NO. Imagine what that would be worth today.

I agree- are we missing something here? He's shown the photos to "some people," but we don't know when, and placed them in a single gallery one time 39 years later. And no 50 year old woman has called him and said, "Hey, that looks like me." It does not seem that he has made much of an effort.

I can only imagine what sort of grade you got for preparing a report on Massachusetts based on information sent to you by a senator from New York.

Hey, If I wanted information on Arkansas, I might write to a senator from New York. {runs from flying fish}
