Bonsai Kitten Pikachu kitten

Comment: My attention has just been drawn to the attached image - a kitten
having the markings of Pikachu. I can't help but wonder whether the little
creature really is like that naturally, or has been dyed or digitally manipulated.

The amount of time it would take to digitally color the cat and its reflection (including the outlying hairs) makes me vote for dyed.

These guys say photoshop, dunno if they are right, but they call themselves "geeks", so it must be so, correct?

It doesn't seem like an easy task to get a kitten to stay still long enough to dye it.

Infinitely easier to photoshop rather than paint the actual cat. Less painful too. And less chance the cat will murder you in your sleep. CS5 makes it much easier to select hair and such.

Digitally adding color to something really isn't that hard if you know Photoshop well. There are even plugins you can get which are specifically for coloring and rendering things like hair. Also to get the color that smooth they would have had to airbrush the cat, not just dyed it. It definitely looks like the color was added digitally to me.

The saturation of the color around the eyes and inside the ears is what really cinches dye as not being possible for me. Assuming we're starting off with a white cat, the inside of this kitten's ears would be pink skin so the skin itself would have to be painted fairly deep inside the ear to achieve the colour. Likewise, the hair is thinner around the eyes, and the inner eyelid area would probably be pinkish as well. I can't see such a vivid and uniform colour being possible even with a cooperatively docile animal.

If it were possible and someone actually did it, the little furball wouldn't be sitting so cute and alert. I've seen kittens about that age immediately after a relative quick vet visit that involved ear cleaning and eye drops. Having their entire body coloured, including inside the ears and right up to the eyes, would be extremely stressful. Rather than sitting pretty for a picture, a cat who had really been through that would more likely be protectively curled up as small as possible with her ears down and eyes squinted.

Either curled in a ball, or furiously grooming, as grooming is one of those stress relievers in cats, like yawning is in dogs.

Well, Gizmo's not a kitten anymore, but I am willing to try this and report back. I've tried to convince DH to let my dye him different colors for holidays.

Hello Kitty

This tumblr account seems to be the origin of the picture and their caption says "my friend’s awesome pikachu edit!"

If the cat were naturally marked like that, it would be less astounding to me than that someone actually believes that the cat might be naturally marked like that!

"I can't help but wonder whether the little creature really is like that naturally"

Ha....

Altering the colour would take the whole part of 10mins for even the most inept of PS user.

Also, the tail looks a bit off, like it was bent to look like Pikachu's lightning bolt tail.

I'm missing something because I don't see a tail in the OP at all.

I don't see the tail. Are you sure you're not looking at the kitten's reflection in the mirror?

(ETA: And spanked)

Maybe it is the reflection. I thought the girls were standing behind the pikakitty and that that was a tail.

You might be better off doing this.
I got the idea because my dog naturally reminded me of Pikachu already, with his pointy ears, reddish-brown spots on his cheeks, and curly tail. We won some contests with that one, except for the one where the judges had never heard of Pokemon.
