Icon86 Hershey releases new candy bar called Hershey's Gold

Glasses

I thought they already had something called Gold. Oh, well.

No chocolate crosses it off my list anyway.

We got a few of these when we visited Hershey last month. I was not too impressed. I found it a bit bland.

Default Ghirardelli rather than Hershey

This conversation made me think of a tangent I have had...

Fun experience this past week. My wife got us involved in a Ghirardelli testing group. The company sent us 16 samples of dark chocolate that we were expected to taste test in sets of four through a four day period, providing feedback through a web app provided to the testers.

It was very interesting to experience the ranges and variations of cocoa liquor, cocoa butter, and sweetener that where being tried out throughout the samples. There was one sample that we suspect was nearly 100% cocoa liquor with little or no sweetener and very little cocoa butter. That one was very difficult to eat, and we like our chocolate very dark.

Everyone in our family thinks this new candy bar is delicious. But I'm not a huge fan of candy bars with chocolate in them, so I don't miss the chocolate at all. I'm the only person I know who prefers the white chocolate Reese's cups to the milk chocolate ones. All of us also like pretzels in our candy and a sweet salty mix, so the bar is perfect for us.

There was definitely a gold bar- milk chocolate with almonds, thicker than the standard bar, maybe a better chocolate, shaped and wrapped to look reminiscent if a gold brick.

No idea if it still exists. I won a box as a kid at the Hershey Hotel c. 1980.

ETA: Apparently it is called "Golden Almond." Maybe it was always called that.

We got a bunch of imported little Hershey's bars but they sat on the table for weeks because they're too sweet for anyone in the family. I had one. It wasn't that bad but I don't have any inclination to have another.

THANK YOU! When I read the OP, I had the same reaction as Seaboe. Now I'm wondering what the difference is between the Golden Almond bar and Hershey's with almonds.

Anyone care to do a taste test?
