United States Scary Obituary

I got a bit of frankenglurge today that's an update of this one. The first part is about the apocryphal Alexander Tyler (Tyter) book and is exactly the same as the linked snopes page. However, the second part replaces Gore and Bush with Obama and Romney as quoted below.
Quote:
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Obama: 19 Romney: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Obama: 580,000 Romney: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Obama: 127 million Romney: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Obama: 13.2 Romney: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the .territory Romney won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population

Already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase..

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal’s - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom
This one made me laugh:
Quote:
called illegal’s
It reminds me of the emails I got back in the '90s about "Bill and Hillary Clinton's" (sic). What's with all the apostrophes?

Only 48 total states? Or maybe the Libertarian won the other 2.

Great catch! I hadn't looked at any of the data. A quick glance at Wikipedia shows it was 26 + DC for Obama and 24 for Romney. I guess who ever did this just did a quick cut and paste.

Canada snuck Florida and Alaska off the electoral map while no one was looking!

Obama territory is the poor part? Not even close. The poor parts--the states that take more from the federal government than they pay in--tend to vote Republican.

Consider all those millionaires and billionaires in Manhattan...

Now this may not hold true for individual voters, but this "scary obituary" is citing territory (I'm assuming blue state v. red state or even blue district v. red district) rather than the individual voter.

ETA: A citation.

Quote:
The poorest states, based on per capita income, are, from first to last: Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, and North Carolina. ... only North Carolina voted for Obama in 2008, so in that sense, these states may be leaning Republican.

Indeed, though when Gore and Bush were the candidates, there were already 50 states and D.C. had its vote for over 30 years. Maybe in that glurge they were counting Florida and New Mexico as ties?

This part is interesting:
Quote:

I thought that a lot of the land in those physically large and relatively low populated states was owned by the U.S. government. (The horror!) So, I guess it is true that it is owned by the citizens of the country in aggregate, but I don't think that is quite what the OP meant.

This version first appeared on Facebook in March 2013. What I've found so far on Google is consistent with that origin. This post in which the author says he saw it on Facebook is the oldest I've found so far. This Disqus post on or shortly after 19 March 2013 is the second-oldest one I've found so far.

I've found many later posts on dozens of conservative sites. Pretty much every one of them just repost it without modifications like this Tea Party site. I also found this "editorial" with no acknowledgment about where it came from.

The postings since March 2013 seem to be at a fairly consistent level. The most recent one is this forum post.

No, at the time this was written (just after the 2000 presidential election), the vote counts in New Mexico and Florida were still too close to call.

Wow, Romney did phenomenally well for not even being IN that election!

No. That's the deception plan, he can say that all he wants. In reality, it will become New New Brunswick.

For that, we'd have to get our grubby lil hands on Louisiana too, so we get all the 'Cadiens and Cajuns together...
