If God didn't like the USA, why did Jesus move here?

I think I spotted Eddie Munster in the audience in that clip. And Ronnie Reagan later. It's odd that Reagan later recalled his service overseas in WWII, since he never actually went overseas, though.

I could not match that movie title, but it appears the actual movie is This is the Army from 1943

I've got a couple of their albums on CD.

He crosses MacArthur Park and walks into a great sandstone building. "Ow, my nose!"

Relentlessly.
Ruthlessly. "I wonder where Ruth is"

I did this with a couple of buddies as a "radio play" for a class in high school. I think I can still remember (almost) all of the script.

"You haven't heard the last of me!"
"No, but the first of you turns my stomach!"

One of my favorite lines from Futurama: "You haven't seen the last of Barbados Slim! Now, good-bye forever!"

Easter Parade is ironic since Easter is what makes Christianity distinct from Judaism. God Bless America, on the other hand, works for any monotheistic religion.

The words are "God bless America" (a petition), not "God blessed America" (a statement). Perhaps you're confusing it with the Roy Rogers song God Must Have Loved America.

Clearly my soul is nonexistent and my heart is truly black as pitch, because I've never been crazy about "God Bless America." It's smaltzy as hell and I'm always like, "Y'know given the wealth and influence America has, maybe we should ask God to bless other nations. I mean, you don't give the blue spiny shell to the guy in first place." Then again, given that the developed world has us beat on everything except imprisoning people and our bloated military budget, maybe the song is more apropos then I think. Though I don't know...

The best thing to come out of this song was Woody Guthrie's This Land is Your Land. He wrote that song as a Take That against "God Bless America" with the chorus originally being "God blessed America for me" rather than "This Land was made for you and me."

Woody Guthrie's song has been out long enough that it can be safely glurgified, especially if you take out this verse:

Quote:
In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;

By the relief office, I'd seen my people.

As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,

Is this land made for you and me?
How dare Woody Guthrie celebrate a bunch of welfare queens.

This verse is usually dropped also:

Quote:
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

I think you will find God is too busy saving the Queen to bless America.

You wouldn't believe some of the scrapes the Queen gets into and has to be saved from. It's a full-time job.

If things keep progressing as they seem to be, He'll be saving Mrs. Ethel Shroake of 393A High Street, Leytonstone instead.

I don't find God Bless America particularly schmaltzy or offensive or stirring or anything, really; it was merely part of the standard background sound of my childhood. However, nowadays when I hear it, all I can think of is the ending of Once Upon A Time In America.
