Cowboy I Shot the Sheriff

Comment: The Bob Marley song I Shot the Sheriff is based on a real
Jamaican incident, where Robert Marlin shot Sheriff John Brown in
self-defense, but was framed for the shooting of his deputy. He was
exonerated years later with DNA evidence. Apparently the deputy was
despondent over the rejection by his lover, Sheriff John Brown and used
Marlin's gun to kill himself, which is why Marlin was accused of the
murder.

According to Wiki:
Quote:
Marley explained his intention as follows: "I want to say 'I shot the police' but the government would have made a fuss so I said 'I shot the sheriff' instead… but it's the same idea: justice."
Which sorta matches Marley's overal themes of his songs.
