I find the premise completely plausible, at least for places with a healthy moose population, but...

...that looks a hell of a lot like one of my friends' houses... I think I had better send this to her.

If that's really her front yard, then a) my mind's a little blown (I didn't notice that it looked like her place until the third picture or so) and b) it happened about half a mile from our house - perfectly likely, since that places the yard about a mile from a national forest/military reserve area.

Okay, it's not complete confirmation, but this blog entry has an earlier date than the other places I found these images. The photo doesn't look like July (when the blog entry was posted, and too late for moose babies anyway), more like late May or early June, but the light is fine for that time of year - it's light until 10:00 at night or later, so at 5:30 there would be no twilight, and the sun would still be high.

They do - they are just faint. It looks like it was overcast that day.

We have confirmation! This is from my friend:

Quote:
YES this was RIGHT in front of my house! I took water out to the Momma moose later....they stayed for 2 days. Fish & Game advised to just "Enjoy...she'll move along when she's ready." It was VERY cool.
Can you correct snipes[sic]? Michigan BALONEY!!! LOL
And we dashed out when Bryan got home and got photographic evidence of our own:

The front door, window and planter box, with a couple of handsome devils (please note the handsome devils are for confirmation purposes, and are not just there because I felt like showing them off):

The left side of the front door, with the hose reel:

The yard from in front of the planter box - the pictures were clearly taken from the neighbors' porch:

The two houses from the street:

This is so obviously fake. In the first set of photos, there are moose but no snow or people; in the second set of photos, there are people and snow but no moose. Worst photoshop ever.

I suppose you'd like me to grab some unsuspecting moose - sorry, moosessses - and drag them over to the yard for a photo op?

*grumble snarl* The things I do for you people!

Thank you, magpye!

And shame on you, Bryan, for eating a little bitty baby moooooooose. (I'll stop now...it's like mooing at cows when I drive by.)

Good job, Magpye. Baby and momma are so cute, aren't they? Ok, baby and daddy aren't so bad, either.

I just got these pics in an email from my mom with the heading:
Quote:
Meaghers Grant is about 40 miles west of the Halifax

Baby Moose 12 Hours Old - Born in the
middle of downtown Meaghers Grant, Nova Scotia
I think it's pretty sad (but no longer surprising) that somebody thought the pics were more interesting with a hometown connection. They're pretty interesting, no matter where they were taken.
