Icon07 Virginia shooting rumors

Comment: I just got this email from a friend, and wondered if it were
true, or just someone trying to make something horrible more so.

"I just read a bit about one of the professor's killed yesterday. He was
a holocaust survivor (must've been like 10 during the holocaust). When he
heard the shots being fired in the building, he barricaded the door with
his body to give his students time to hide and/or get out of the window.
Yesterday was holocaust remembrance day."

BBC article here.. Scroll down to Professor Liviu Librescu.

Quote:
Professor Liviu Librescu, 76, was an Romanian-born Israeli academic in the Engineering Science & Mechanics Department. He was also a Holocaust survivor and moved to Virginia in 1985.

Internationally renowned for his research work, he has been hailed a hero for blocking a doorway to protect his students.

His son Joe said he had received e-mails from several students who said he had saved their lives.

It was Liviu Librescu.

Although on the news, students were interviewed and they weren't sure if he was blocking the door, or guarding as their backs were turned to jump out of the building. Two of the students in that room were shot but survived. I'm not sure how much help the professor was in saving the lives of the students as the media is portraying.

Comment: Subject: FW: PLEASE SEND UP A PRAYER FOR THE FOLKS...I just got this e-mail from FCA...

Hey guys,

Please pray for a family in TX that had a daughter killed in the VT
massacre. In their haste to get to VT, the father backed over their 8
year old and killed her. Please cry out for this family in prayer.

Comment: Have you any information on the shooter at Virginia Tech having a
Ismail Ax tattoo on his arm? This was reported to me and I was seeking to
know if it was true or false. With all the terrorist activity sometimes
people get carried away and want to link everything together.

Icon05 Gunman's cryptic phrase sparks frenzy

A mystery phrase was written in red ink on the arm of the gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech in the worst campus shooting massacre in US history.

On his arm, police found the words "Ismail Ax". The meaning of the term is unclear and has sparked a web searching frenzy as people around the world struggle to find a meaning in his actions.

not a tattoo, but it was written on his arm in red ink. Info

(ain't read the linked-to article in full but stick the term "ismail ax" into google news and there's plenty of refs)

Some people have theorised it as a reference to a story in the Koran, in which Ibrahim destroys idols using an ax, due to Ishmael being the son of Ibrahim.

I'm not particularly convinced tho...

Comment: I received the following email today. I just hope you will tell
me it is not true...

Y'all...this is not an Internet rumor or bad hoax...my nephew in College
Station, Tx just called his mama (my sister) to ask her to pray for a San
Antonio woman and her family who are friends of my nephew and his
wife...The woman's name is Yolanda Bear. This is what my sister Aimee just
wrote me:

>>>.... She (Yolanda Bear) and her family lost a daughter in the shooting
at Virginia Tech and were packing to go there...and were naturally very
distraught...(I don't think their daughter's name has been released to the
press yet.) The husband, in backing up the car so that they could more
easily pack, accidentally ran over their other daughter, age 8 who died.
My heart is aching as I write this! We ask, where was God in all of this
suffering, and the answer is that he was (and is) right there with that
family, but please ask for angels to hold them up as they go through this
horror. >>>

Please pass this along to all those you know who really pray for people in
need. They say God never gives you more than you can handle, but this San
Antonio family will need the prayers for a nation; the prayers of the
entire world to get through this with any resemblance of sanity. As one
electronic journalist said on TV last night..."This is the 9/11 of school
slayings." And now this added grief for what is left of this family...

If I haven't told each of you lately . . . I love you.

Thanks in advance for your prayers...

Couldn't find anything about Yolanda Bear. Maybe the name is spelled wrong.

However, this says there is a report that the parents were taken to the hospital for shock and that the earlier reports of suicide attempts were incorrect.

Who has that much poor taste? Every time something like this happens, you hear somebody say something like that. I don't know who it was this time around, but I can't say I'm surprised that quote turned up.

I heard this from my friend:
Some of the language Cho used(in his video rants) was bleeped out and his mouth was blurred as he uttered certain words. I told him these were obscenities (like where he says 'shit') and the blurring of the mouth is a relatively new idea. He said according to Michael Smerconish (who is filling in for Glenn Beck on CNN this week) that the words were Islamic references and the FBI chose to censor those words. Something to do with terrorism I presume.
I vote bullshit. I saw the clip of the video (way too many times!) on Fox and it appears the words censored were obscenities.

I just got a different version of the Yolanda Bear story in my inbox. The person who forwarded it to me is not Heather, but the email didn't have the usual long list of fwds, so I don't know who Heather is.

Quote:
Hi all,

I just got off the phone with a sweet friend that is going through some major hard circumstances right now (of her own). However, she just found out that one of her best friends in San Antonio, Yolanda Bear, had a daughter at Virginia Tech that was killed yesterday. Yolanda, her husband and eight year old daughter managed to get an emergency flight out to Virginia and were trying to hurry to get loaded up and go to the airport. In the midst of backing the car in the driveway her husband accidentally ran over their 8 year old daughter and she died as well. Yolanda is in hospital under sedation at the moment. Donā€™t know about the husband. My friend is trying to get down there to be with her asap but, as I said, has her hands full of difficulties herself here at home and feels very helpless! I would appreciate your prayers for this family. They are believers. My friend had the privilege of leading the student at Tech to the Lord in 2nd grade. My heart just breaks for them.

Cammy or Becky, if you could pass this on to our church contacts, that would be great.

Hug your family!

Heather

This article says the Yolanda Bear story is most likely a hoax.
