Well quite - if you believe A) then Trump must have a team - of responsible, professionally-qualified adults, presumably with experience in the relevant areas - who write and approve the things he tweets for him. That's almost as unbelievable as that it was a one-off.

I was surprised enough to discover that the White House has a "Social Media Director" even if other people aren't writing Trump's tweets for him. The title implies at least some level of approval. Maybe his entire staff is thinking, "Well, we're here now, let's see where the limits are and what we can get away with". Sadly that seems quite plausible to me. Although I would guess that his staff may not have as much control as they'd like over their areas of responsibility, and therefore may have no option but to adopt that attitude.

I would assume that the White House social media director is responsible for the @WhiteHouse twitter feed, and probably for the White House facebook page, but has nothing to do with @realDonaldTrump.

And now because of the Mueller investigation...

Fox News has declared that a coup is underway in America.

Quote:
President Trump and his supporters at Fox News have used many words to describe the investigation by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III into the possible collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives to influence the 2016 presidential election.

There’s Trump’s personal favorite: “witch hunt.” Fox News commentators have called the investigation “illegitimate” and “corrupt.” Sean Hannity charged earlier this month that Mueller has put the country “on the brink of becoming a banana republic.”

Apparently these strong words weren’t strong enough. Saturday night, Fox suggested that the Mueller probe might be “a coup in America.”
I've worked with officers from countries who took part in coups, and this ain't no coup.

I suppose we can add it to the list of “Things We’ve Learned Thanks to the Right:” Enforcing the law is the same as engineering a coup.

Maybe some-one should point out to the Right the difference between elected President and God-Emperor. I'm certain no-one has told President Trump either.

Roll eyes

Dramatic much Fox News? I've heard/seen reports of coups, and from what I've seen, this doesn't even register as the tiniest of blips.

Perhaps it’s a coup d’loi? Coup d’loi... Am I using the French correctly? I mean to say it is a coup of the law. Or does my phrasing suggest the law is being overthrown/struck? Because I’m hoping for the opposite of that.

"Coup" is a blow or strike, so it would be "blow of the law" if I'm parsing it correctly.

PS. Mine is meant to be "blow to the ego".

Right, but is it of as in to (against) or of as in for (in furtherance/support of)? Because a coup d'etat is obviously a blow against the government (okay, state). But then a coup d'oeil is a blow of the eye and in tactics disucssions refers to taking in the particulars of a situation at a glance and gaining comprehension very quickly, so...?

[pedant]Coup d'oeil wouldn't be "blow of the eye", it's more a glance

Jette un coup d'oeil la-dessus!= check that out![/pedant]

That was kind of the point, discussing the pedantry of various phrases involving the word coup, translated into English...

Here I thought you were going to make the joke that a coup à l'ego is when a kid smashes his structure built with a sophisticated interlocking plastic brick building system.

Nope. Way too sophisticated for me. Plus, you weren't coming up with anything, and I was worried you weren't feeling well or something.

Jaded Grassley, Graham call for investigation into "Trump dossier" author

Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and Sen. Lindsey Graham are recommending that Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous "Trump dossier," be investigated by the Justice Department. The two Republicans told the Justice Department on Friday that they believed that Steele may have lied to FBI about "the distribution of claims from the dossier."
