Madagascar. Which probably isn't in the Indian Ocean, but that's what popped into my head, so that's what I put down.

2. In a famous 1969 ad, what kind of bird became the mascot for Tootsie Pops?
Tootsie Pops has a mascot? I'm going to say a woodpecker.

U.S. Open. Golf or Tennis, take your pick.

4. What famous American owned the Castro Camera store until his assassination in 1978?
I don't know who was assassinated in 1978, so I can't accurately answer this, but I've never let that stop me before, so I'll say Malcolm X.

5. What kind of particle accelerator did Ernest Lawrence invent in 1932, using an 80-ton surplus magnet from a telegraph company?
electron. I'm on a roll: five questions answered, none of them right except by accident.

6. What was the real-life occupation of the subjects of Picasso's painting Les Demoiselles d'Avignon?
Prostitutes? Or is it that he painted washer women and made them look like prostitutes?

7. What unusual distinction is shared by all these literary characters? Antigone, Babar, Bambi, Jose Arcadio Buendia, Deucalion, Victor Frankenstein, Jacob/Israel, Jude the Obscure, Cathy Linton, Metis, Fanny Price, Jack Worthing.
Well, I'm pretty sure Babar and Bambi didn't murder one of their parents, so that's out. They are both princes (and Babar becomes king), but Cathy Linton wasn't royalty and neither was Victor. I haven't read most of the books they come from, so this is the extent of my speculations. ETA: I think Chillas got it.

I'm going with Madagascar, although Sri Lanka might be bigger.

Well, we know that's true of Bambi and Frankenstein's monster, but is it true of Victor himself, or of Babar?

Yeah, I am pretty sure that Jude vs Godzilla was just fanfic, not an official part of either series.

1. Ceylon, Madagascar or Java? I'm going with Madagascar for no other reason than I've seen the movie.

2. I have not thought about Tootsie Pops since the 1980s. I never knew a bird was associated. I'll guess a peacock.

3. Australian Open, if I'm not mistaken

4. I don't know any assassinations in 1978. I know somebody shot the repetitive paintings artist Andy Warhol. I'll say him.

5. Proton accelerator?

6. I've seen the painting, but know nothing about it. I'll say nurses.

7. All are best known by just one name.
