Icon22 Two of History's Deadliest Plagues Linked, with Implications for Another Outbreak

Two of history's deadliest plagues, which swept across Europe hundreds of years apart, were caused by different strains of the same deadly microbe, scientists say.

The finding raises the possibility that a new strain of plague could infect humanity again in the future.

I wouldn't describe as calling for another deadly plague. It suggests that control of rodents and use of antibiotics make it unlikely. And no suggestion of any anti-biotic resistant strains emerging.
A question though: I don't remember hearing much about the plague in the 19th and early 20th century. Can anyone point to information on this?

It could be worse, it could snow in Atlanta.

Default The third plague pandemic ,that Erwins mentioned, eventually reached Hawaii and later the US West Coast. From there it eventually spread to the rodent population and remains present in them today, as a man from a neighboring town learned the hard way a couple of years ago.
