Tsk, Tsk FDA not amused by coffee laced with Viagra-like drugs, issues recall

Not sure if this belongs here, or in 'The Bad Gastronomer' but this story is too interesting to pass up, you see the same kind of 'product substitution' (pharmaceutical drugs for herbs.) in the 'Alternative medicine' community.

Quote:
A cup of this brew will certainly get you up in the morning. But the Food and Drug Administration is not having it.

The agency announced a second voluntary recall of a coffee product laced with a Viagra-like drug. The latest recall affects the uniquely named “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” product, distributed by Bestherbs Coffee LLC. As in other cases, the owner of Bestherbs Coffee suspects that a common herbal ingredient used in the coffee was purposefully contaminated to cut down on costs.

From the article:

Quote:
Bestherbs Coffee’s “New of Kopi Jantan Tradisional Natural Herbs Coffee” product also contained undeclared milk, the recall announcement noted, which could pose a risk to those with severe milk sensitives.
Also annoying to the vegans.

Sounds like a good company not to buy anything from. Even if they can actually spell "traditional" -- though I'm almost inclined to wonder if that's deliberate: 'we didn't actually use traditional herbs, we just want careless readers to think that we did'. More likely a typo on somebody's part, though. -- the caption under the photo in the sidebar makes me think it's the company's typo, not the article's, though I can't read it on the package.

About the spelling, it's just mixing some Indonesian (i.e. 'tradisional' from Dutch). I don't know why but it's probably not a mistake.

Spit Take

The folks responsible better perk up - I wouldn't be surprised if more trouble is brewing.
