Oh crap! Thanks for the reminder. Serenity would be heartbroken if she knew I forgot that we were almost out of canned food.

Computer

Down: I spilled a cup of coffee on my laptop. I actually heard it fizz and fry.

Up: A dear friend had sent me her old netbook the last time I had computer issues, so am still connected to the internet.

Up: I found a deal where I can pay monthly payments and get a Dell laptop and only overpay for the machine about $200.

Down: I will be overpaying about $200.

Up: It came today after 10 days. It's a fine looking laptop.

Down: It doesn't have a port for my DSL modem and only has Wi-Fi. I don't have Wi-Fi.

Up: Contacted my DSL provider and they will send me a compatible modem and Wi-Fi router.

Down: It will cost $110 on my next phone/internet bill.

Up: It will be here Thursday.

Up: And the reliable old netbook, she may be slow, but she's working!

Down: the electrician tells DH and I that the reason the over-the-sink light doesn't work is because it takes a special type of bulb. Oh great, I have a mutant light. I'll be looking all over Amazon and the rest of the Internet to find this special light bulb.

Up: Checked out Home Depot; the person whose help I asked for led me right to this not-hard-to-find-at-all light bulb.

Up: There is a company named Hero Forge that will 3D print custom gaming miniatures with hundreds or thousands of different options, including facial features, stances, clothing, equipment, and even mounts.

Down: I don't play any games that would allow me to make use of such custom miniatures to "justify" my buying some.

Do you have any friends/relatives who do? Presents for them, and of course you need one of your own first to ensure the quality of the product. Can't give them shoddy merchandise!

I have a friend who plays Warhammer 40K, but I think he does it as an excuse to build and paint miniatures.

Would those figures make sense for any friend who is in to model railroads? We recently went to a train museum near Montreal and they had model train layouts there that were so intricate and involved I could understand better how people could get into model trains as a hobby!

Up: my BFF found someone to help her get the outside work done (and lower the fire danger, too, we hope).

Down: her father's declining rapidly. He's now basically non-verbal

Up: He still knows who she is, and that she's his daughter.

The figures they make are about 1:60 scale. S gage seems to be the closest at 1:64, but seems to be a newer gage, so your friend may not be using it. N and HO are probably the most common, the figures from Hero Forge would be big for HO and giants for N.

Hero Forge is awesome. I, too, am looking for an excuse to order one, and I DO play games where I could use them. It's just so expensive, even for the cheap ones...

...and from what I hear (from friends who've bought them), you don't want to use the cheapest option anyway. Those end up being very fragile, and often end up breaking in the first few months. They all recommend going with the second cheapest option.

My internship is now five days a week instead of 2.

The upside- I feel like I"m getting along better with everyone there now that I'm there every workday and get to be a part of the daily routines.

Down- Back when I was only here 2 days a week, and worked the other 3 days, I feel like I had more time to myself. I know this must not be true, because I was also taking tons of classes then. And it must be just rose-tinted glasses because I know I complained here about being tired then. However the workplace environment of my other job was less stressful than my current environment. There's not really anything I can do about it and I wish it would get better. I liked my job a lot and either didn't mind or actually looked forward to getting up for work. Now my mornings are full of this undercurrent of slight dread, which makes me move more slowly, which makes m run late....

That ended up being way more down than up. Uh... Up- It's been a good learning experience?
