New Zealand NZ Police apologise to Irish over kayak incident

Police have back-tracked and apologised to the Irish after making an unsubstantiated assumption about the nationality of a dangerous driver who strapped a kayak crossways to his car.

Someone couldn't have seriously put a kayak on their car like that. Had to have been a dumb joke or a dare or something.

Well, it is an easy mistake to make: you'd have to be drunk to tie the kayak that way,and Irish are always drunk, so the driver had to be Irish. QED
