I don't live there and he's still the president of the United States. Still prefer someone else, and freedom of speech means I'm allowed to say that I prefer someone else. It's the American way.

"Uncle Sam is not your baby daddy--get a job!"

Well, maybe if the *actual* baby daddy stepped up, maybe she wouldn't have to involve Uncle Sam?

(Just a thought.)

Odds are the woman getting benefits already has a job, those benefits are helping her make ends meet. Sure we all know women who stay at home with their kids, even those who are getting benefits from "Uncle Sam" (or the Canadian equivalent) but those women are in the minority. Just how much money do these people think a woman is going to get? Not nearly as much as they believe that's for sure!

And I may be wrong on this, but when a single mom applies for assistance(at least in the US), I believe she is required to disclose the identity of the father and efforts are made to get him to pay child support.

Enough to buy a Cadillac and and iPhone and eat lobster every day, apparently. Whenever I've confronted someone about this myth ("If it's so easy to scam the system and get all this free stuff, why aren't YOU taking advantage of it?") I never get an answer out of them.

I think it depends on the jurisdiction, at least state by state.

It's so irritating. I do know people who are "scamming" the system. If by scamming we accept that anyone actually, you know, using the system is a scammer . And they certainly are not driving Cadillacs and dining on lobster. A friend of my daughter's could be accused, and fairly I think, of playing the system in that she's parlayed being a teen mom into a full-time income. She is getting her college paid for, her child care subsidized and is getting family allowance (which all parents of children are entitled to) and a monthly cheque as well. I say she is playing the system because she has told us as much. She sticks with a program just long enough to switch to another program. She's been in college (not university, community college) for over 5 years now and as long as she can get away with not graduating she's going to keep doing it. It bothers me, but it bothers me a lot more that billionaires are in the White House making money and planning to take money and benefits away from as many people as they can manage. It's funny though how the people screaming "welfare cheat" and posting meme's about them aren't also posting meme's about Trump and his Merry Band of Robber Barons.

A related one I've seen is "If you can afford(insert list of items such as a tattoo, smartphone, manicure, hair extensions, etc.), you don't need welfare."

I mentioned on TYSHTTP, some-one wanted to know how much I got since I have a mix of provincial and private benefits. And she was complaining because I had some chocolate in my basket...and a bottle of cheap plonk.

My husband had paid into the system while he was alive. I'm entitled to his coverage.I'm not mooching.

I'm reasonably sure these people miss the good olde days when you could brand vagrants so you knew in advance how much to judge them.

How damned presumptuous!! I trust this person has no life insurance and is not a beneficiary on someone else's. What a fricking nerve. I hope you told her where to get off.

That's something I've wondered as well. If the poor really have it that easy, then why doesn't everyone sell and give away all their money and possessions to eke out an existence on the princely life of a welfare recipient? Oh and the woman who inspired Reagan's welfare queen slur? From what I've heard, welfare fraud may be the least of her offenses. I think her name is Linda Taylor; look it up.

Self respect, of course. Protestant work ethic and all that. Worked hard for every penny they ever earned, even the ones their mom and dad or uncle Sam gave them, and damn proud of it.

For the record, here's a Wikipedia link about the woman I mentioned in a previous post. Again, if you clicked on some of the links cited, many believe that Welfare Fraud may have been the least of the crimes she's committed.

Just why are so many of these meme-creators on-charitable. I'll bet most would also claim to be Christian, and we know Christ said nothing about helping the poor.
