He has always been one of my favorite artists, one I had hoped to be able to see in concert, although he never came to Utah while I was here. RIP.

It's been picked up by the Associated Press, so it sadly seems to be true.

What a rotten year for 80s music!

When I first saw a story pop up on ABC News that someone had died at Princes' Minnesota home, coupled to the recent reports he had been ill, I feared the worst.

May he rest in peace.

Wow, I had no idea that he had been sick. As an artist, he always seemed to follow his own path.
It has been a bad year for lovers of iconic music.

Is it wrong that my first thought was "Great, now snopes is going to be flooded with people asking 'Is Prince really dead?'"?

A friend already posted: "Has anyone snopesed it yet?" At least some people are developing a healthy skepticism.

In case anyone is interested, the Current 89.3 in Minnesota is all Prince all day.

http://www.thecurrent.org/ Some talk and lots of music.

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world

A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night

So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world
In this life
You're on your own

And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor...

The elevator in that song will never be the same.

Apparently he'd been ill with flu; my theory is that he gave up the will to live when he heard about Victoria Wood...

When my friend saw it in the pub a couple of hours ago, we checked the site his friend had sent him - the Daily Mail at the time. That was almost reliable, but we didn't properly believe it until we'd independently checked the BBC.

I've never been a Prince fan even though I'm the right age to have caught him on the way up, so I'm less upset on a personal level than I was by Victoria Wood dying. But it really does seem this year is getting beyond a joke, doesn't it? I know these random statistical clusters aren't really even anomalies, but really...

I'm waiting for the purple rain to start falling now. RIP Prince. This has been an absolutely ghastly year for celebrity deaths, and the dang year isn't a third of the way through.

Dammit, I didn't know that Victoria Wood had died . Definitely not a good year for celebrities so far.

Well, NFBSK. Definitely not a good year for iconic, groundbreaking, genre-defying musical heroes.

107.3 in DC did the same. I have to say, when i heard, after "Huh? Wow!" I thought about how when I was the same age as my son is now, i wore out my Purple Rain cassette. I listened and sang along to the all Prince in my car today and honestly was a bit surprised about how sad (wistful? Nostalgic?) I was.

RIP Prince. I hope you are somewhere dancing with a girl in a raspberry beret. Thanks for teaching us to party like it's 1999.

Definitely sad over Victoria Wood's death. I don't know a great deal of her stuff, but her "Ballad Of Barry And Freda" is one of the best things EVER.

I really don't know what to expect for the remaining 8 months of 2016, but the way it's going it's not going to be pleasant.

Just read this. There's an old saying "they didn't even let him/her get cold".

Well, the formula {Statement basically saying at black people's problems are their own fault and/or their problem to pull themselves out of} + Attribute to Bill Cosby needed a replacement.

I was never a huge fan of Prince although he was my era but when I first heard it, it was a case of "Did they say Prince? no they couldn't have said Prince." It was that unexpected.

Well they obviously wanted to say for a while but knew he would deny it so they had to wait till he was dead.
