Default Fans unfurl "Racism is as American as Baseball" banner at Red Sox game

Some fans seated above the Green Monster hung a sign about racism in the fourth inning and were escorted from Fenway Park during Boston's 7-3 loss to Oakland on Wednesday night.

That is witty and well stated.

Unfortunately, the story is going to be that they had their right to express themselves squashed. But the banner was taken down because:
Quote:
It was up on the left field wall for about one batter until umpires asked it be removed because it was in fair territory.
You are not allowed to hang a banner in the field of play.

What is not at all clear though is why they were kicked out of the park altogether? Unless they repeatedly pt the sign back up after being told to take it down, which doe snot appear to be the case.

The banner would have been taken down regardless of where in the stadium it was. The location really had nothing to do with it being taken down or the people being booted out. I'm pretty sure Fenway is privately owned and the statement was actually at least partly directed at the Red Soxs themselves (or their fans), so of course it was taken down. The Red Soxs were the last team in major league baseball to integrate.
