They seem to have their little game wrong. Wouldn't it make more sense for the person behind to just wait until the guy was actually out of his car, considering that was (apparently) the whole point of having the guy in front fake a seizure? Otherwise, why use an accomplice, just grab a car at a stoplight or something.

He was then told that since that part of Arlington is
the entertainment district, they don't want the word out because they are
afraid it will hurt attendance at events in that area.
Yes, and there are no media services that would have a field day upon learning of it? The police are that good at keeping multiple incidents of brutal crimes in a popular area secret.

Seems to me if the friend was interested in making it public, s/he would go to the local news media rather than start an email chain.

They addressed this on the news in Dallas last night. There has been exactly 1 incident similar to this description in Arlington. Story here.

From the description of Arlington, it doesn't sound like they're talking about Arlington, Virginia. Which leaves Arlington, Texas. Which means Dennis must have had a gun. The wuss couldn't be bothered to shoot the gangsters?

ETA: Spanked, sort of.

I assumed they were talking about Arlington, VA because there is a Washington Blvd there. But there's no entretainment district.

Doesn't a proper carjacking include stealing the car?

Also, this map doesn't seem to be trying to hide crimes.

[ETA: I assumed, based on the street named "Washington" they were talking about Arlington, VA. Here's the Arlington, TX, crime map.]
