Default Sig lines

It looks like it let me put a picture in my sig. Did it work?

Apparently not. Not a good feature to have anyhow.

I turned off the use of images and HTML code in sig lines because they seemed like an invitation to mayhem. Perhaps HTML might be okay.

Oh, well it let me have a smiley there. Is that not an "image"?

If that were to happen, I forsee me stabbing their owners in the face.

Hmm, I don't know. People can already get pretty carried away with it once they learn it, IMO. If limits could be put on the HTML restricting things like text size and disallowing things like flashing and marquee text it might be okay (though I doubt that would be possible). Of course, most people are generally good about the rules so a "Nothing annoying in your sig" rule might work if you decide to go that route.

I pushed my sig to 6 lines with no problem so looks like you can have a pretty large one which might be a problem.

ETA: Look, I have a larger sig line than actual post!

What pics go in a sig line that aren't blinkie dolls?

Um, overly large images of whichever celebrity the given poster is obsessed with, pictures of their WoW character, a graphic including the lyrics to an entire verse of some emotastic song that sums up just how much their life sucks...

You get the idea

As I recall, you could do the same on the other boards as well. We were just asked not to.

That's possible. I'm such a lawful person I never actually tried to go more than 3.

I see the quote function has been turned off for sig lines.

For the best, too. It was rather distracting.

ETA: I see most coding has been turned off.

I see that too. It would be nice to post links to blogs and so on, but I can see getting rid of that ability if it will cause problems. I would hate to see some of the over the top crap I've seen in sig lines on other boards.

I don't wanna start a whole new thread, but I just wanted to mention that I couldn't complete registration on Safari, I had to download Firefox. I don't know if that makes any difference or anything.

Ana, have you been able to use Safari now that you've registered? I'm on a new Dell machine running Windows XP and using IE7 until Saturday, so I have no idea how the new board will behave with OSX and Safari.

I am a Mac girl, but this Dell is pretty spanky. I'm really being spoiled by the 18" flat panel monitor.

What, specifically, didn't work for you when you tried to register using Safari, Ana?

It worked fine after registration, but it stalled in the middle.

I got to the agreement, agreed, and it went to a white screen. I waited a while, refreshed, and still got the white screen. I tried it about five times, and then I worried I'd screw up my registration so I downloaded Firefox. I'm posting from Safari right now though, and it seems fine. I hope that made sense.

It would be nice to be able to put links in sigs. Can we do that if we just enable BBcode? Or would that introduce other undesirable effects?

(On the other hand, I think the drop-down menu when you click on people's names is cool, and you can have a link to your home page or blog there. Not quite as much of an "advertisement" I suppose, but maybe it's less intrusive that way.)

It did actually not allow me to make a signature over 4 lines, though. (Which is fine.)

Testing sig line.

I read this thread before my registration was activated and noticed someone mentioned the length allowed on the old board. We were asked to keep four lines or less but it could go over. In fact, mine was four lines to me, but others said it was three or five. I think it depends on your screen resolution. The restriction was something like 250 characters. Someone may have answered this since I last read the thread. If so, whoops!

ETA: I just looked, and my sig here is broken in the same place as my sig on the other board. Yay!
