Default Husband tried to electrocute pregnant wife by rigging front door

Quote:
A Florida man has been accused of trying to electrocute his pregnant estranged wife by rigging the front door of his home with an electrical device.

Police were called to Michael Scott Wilson's Palm Coast home on Dec. 26 after a family member reported that they were having trouble opening the door, WKMG reports.

When officers arrived they found that the front door was barricaded and there was burn marks near the door handle.

When a deputy tried to kick the door open, there was a large spark.

First time I saw this idea was in a C.J. Cherry novel... not that I ever wanted to see it in real life...

I'm trying to figure out how his relatives were trying to get into the door without setting that trap off?

I assumed they didn't know the trap was there.

Yeah, but they were trying to open the door without unlocking it?

Good question. The article isn't exactly generous with details.

Isn't this the guy who changed his status to "widowed"?

Yep.

Ah, that makes it much clearer. The "family members" were his in-laws, worried about his wife. The other article left me wondering why cops would come out just because people were having trouble opening a relative's door. Context.

ETA: And this part makes the whole thing even sadder:

Quote:
Citing a court document, the newspaper reports that Wilson's wife told detectives the suspect's mental health appeared to deteriorate after falling and hitting his head several months ago.
