Hello Kitty Katrina creates custody dogfight

Paula Duming took her puppy home on Christmas Eve 2004 after adopting the black and white terrier mix for $20 at a shelter. She named him Pablo.

"I brought him home in the palm of my hand," said Duming, who lived then in Chalmette, La. "It was the greatest gift. We were very close."

But, as it did with so many other lives, Hurricane Katrina intervened.

Pablo and Duming were separated when she was airlifted off her roof Sept. 3, 2005, says Best Friends spokeswoman Barbara Williamson. The group's rescuers found the dog in the neighborhood on Sept. 25, she says.
Other issue aside, this is heartbreaking, I cannot imagine having to leave my dog behind as I was carried off by a rescue chopper, I just know I'd be staring down at her (presumably this dog was on the roof/in the house if thats when they were seperated) and seeing her no doubt upset staring up at me barking..

Man..

I'm gonna go hug my dog..

I agree, this is heartbreaking. I feel for the people who had no way to take their animals with them out of the disaster.

I feel for the people who, in good faith, adopted animals who had been left behind.

And I feel for the poor dogs and cats who were left behind, rescued, adopted, and are now being fought over.

No clear winners, all losers in this situation.
